Tableware Designs

All of our Bermuda Clayworks' tableware is food safe, dishwasher safe and microwave safe.

PRODUCTION PROCESS

Our tableware is all made onsite using a low fired earthenware white clay body and fired to cone 04 which is just over 1940 degrees farenheit. Once fired the bisque is painted in the various designs using food safe underglazes. The pots are then fired to set the colours and then dipped in a transluscent gloss glaze for the third and final firing. Colours will not fade or change over time. No lead is used in any of our materials.

CARE OF YOUR POTTERY

It is handmade pottery so still handle with care to prevent chipping. It is advisable to warm teapots with hot tap water prior to brewing tea. This warms the pot keeping your tea hot longer but also prevents thermal shock which lengthens the life of your teapot. Tea and coffee stains in mugs and teapots can simply be removed with a weak solution of water and bleach if needed. Plates can be kept warm in the oven prior to service. Our current tableware is designed for serving and not for baking and cooking.

SNAPDRAGON

A touch of Spring with pink and maroon snapdragons on a light crisp green background.

This design was introduced in 2013 and has already proven that pretty is still popular.

DRAGONFLY

Turquoise winged dragonflies intertwine with delicate purple flowers.

In some Asian cultures, the dragonfly is a symbol of summer & autumn, of courage & strength,

of happiness & harmony, of good luck & prosperity.

Other cultures, including the Native Americans, associate the dragonfly with purity, swiftness, and also happiness.

As the dragonfly is a creature of both the wind and of the water it has an extensive list of symbolism depending on one’s culture.

OCEANUS

This nautical themed design features deep cobalt blue designs of marine life including turtles, dolphins, Bermuda fish, corals and shells on a bright white background.

Some of the designs are done in a pointilism & line realistic style while others are done in the Oceanic art tradition - often associated with tatoos and Maori culture.

These designs are primarily painted on plates and bowls to best featured the detailed artwork.

The bowls and plates are rimmed in a deep blue band or an ocean wave stylistic rim.
